Program Overview
The Student Reintegration Program is an online, asynchronous, self-guided experience designed for students returning to the University following a disciplinary dismissal or suspension. Students returning following other significant interruptions, such as hospitalization, medical leave or personal circumstances, may receive other individualized transition support through Student Support Services.
The reintegration program is designed to help students:
- Reflect on the circumstances that contributed to their separation from the University
- Understand accountability and the impact of their decisions on others and the broader campus community
- Identify personal, academic, behavioral or well-being challenges that may affect their return
- Reconnect with University expectations, values, resources and support systems
- Rebuild productive academic and personal routines
- Strengthen decision-making, self-regulation and problem-solving skills
- Develop strategies for preventing future concerns
- Restore a sense of belonging and positive connection to the UMD community
Difference Between Reintegration and Student Conduct
The Student Reintegration Program supports a student's transition back to UMD but does not replace or change the student conduct process. Participation in reintegration does not guarantee a particular academic, conduct, housing or University outcome.
The Office of Student Conduct is responsible for:
- Conduct decisions
- Sanctions
- Conditions of return
- Formal requirements established through the conduct process
Student Support Services focuses on:
- Supporting transition and adjustment
- Connecting students with resources
- Helping students identify strategies for success
- Promoting continued engagement with the University community
Participation in reintegration does not guarantee a particular academic, conduct, housing or University outcome.
