Fostering Terp Success (FTS) is an initiative supporting undergraduate students aged 24 and under who are experiencing homelessness or have a history in foster care. This program offers a network of resources to help students navigate university life, overcome challenges and build a foundation for success.

Program Overview

FTS provides a comprehensive support system, including:

  • Personalized Support: Guidance from FTS case managers and campus coaches.
  • Workshops: Sessions on meal preparation, financial wellness, career planning and more.
  • Mentorship: One-on-one coaching to help navigate university life and build life skills.
  • Community Engagement: Access to social events and a supportive peer network.
  • Housing Security: Eligibility for year-round on-campus housing, including during breaks.
  • Financial Assistance: Potential for end-of-semester stipends for active participation.

FTS is designed for UMD undergraduate students who:

  • Are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, as defined by the McKinney-Vento Act.
  • Have a history of involvement in foster care.

If you identify with these experiences, FTS can provide the support you need to thrive at UMD.

  • Offer one-on-one mentoring to help students navigate academics and life challenges.
  • Assist students in setting goals and connecting to university resources.
  • Receive training and ongoing support from the FTS team.
